Over the years, Howard University students have gotten to know the shops of Lower Georgia Avenue: Negri, McDonald’s, and Sankofa. But there's also the one-man bookstore run by Montu, a Baltimore resident who has been selling books roadside since 1985. In this feature package for HU NewsVision, I talked to Montu and learned why he does it.
A pre-election package I made diving into how Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump’s proposed election policies may impact the take-home pay of American workers.
Polls opened in Washington, D.C. at 7 a.m. for the 2024 Presidential Election. I visited one polling station in Northwest D.C. to talk to voters about the day and what it meant to cast a ballot in a historic election.
During the recent Congressional Black Caucus' Legislative Session, national activists and community leaders came together to discuss the pivotal role of how utilities can promote environmental justice, sustain critical infrastructure investments, and foster partnerships to advance community goals and equity. I covered the panel for HU NewsVision.
First Lady Jill Biden hosted the cast and creators of the political drama series “The West Wing” in honor of the show’s 25th anniversary. I covered the event for HU NewsVision, where The First Lady, actor Martin Sheen, and the show’s creator, Aaron Sorkin, spoke, evoking the hopeful politics that defined their show.
On the corner of Florida Avenue and Seventh Street NW, it’s normal for residents passing by the Metro PCS, to hear Go-Go—Washington’s original music genre—blasting from a speaker. But a new bill in committee at the D.C. Council called, “The Amplified Sound Mitigation Act,” could make that intersection and others like it in the District a little quieter.
I made this video for The Washington Informer to explain what the bill is and what it could mean for Washingtonians if passed by the council.
As a Chevrolet Discover the Unexpected fellow, I was sent on a road trip in the 2024 Chevy Trax and made this video recapping my stops in Pittsburgh and Baltimore.
Chevrolet +
This was the first video I made for Chevrolet, announcing me getting selected for the program and introducing my cohort.
Youth Leadership Foundation (YLF) is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., founded by the first African American tenured professor at American University. In honor of the last day of National Mentoring Month, The Hilltop talked to its Executive Director, Janaiha Bennett, one of its mentors, and a parent about how mentorship has impacted their lives and the lives of their children. I produced, shot, and edited the video.
